Raiders linebacker Danny Clark sign with New Orleans Saints
Danny Clark signed with The New Orleans Saints on Tuesday and veteran Jay Bellamy was released to make room on the rooster. Bellamy has been with the Saints since 2001, starting 67 games and making 9 interceptions. He led the Saints in tackles in 2003 and 2004.
The veteran Clark who has been a productive player will be a contributor to the Saints due his wealth of experience. This is his seventh season in the NFL; he also has five forced fumbles and an interception in his career.
For 2003 he played in all 16 league games with eight starts at LB in final season with Jacksonville and finished eighth on the team in tackles with 73, tied for third on the squad in special teams tackles with 11. He also was named All-Conference as a quarterback and linebacker at Hillcrest High in Country Club, Illinois
The Saint placed punter M Berger on injured reserve and signed punter Steve Weatherford, Berger is out of practice due a pelvic injury.
Weatherford, a rookie out of Illinois, handled all punting duties during the preseason and had a 46.7 yard average through four games.
2005 was an off year for Weatherford as he averaged only 42.6 yards per punt and had only 16 of his 67 attempts land inside the 20 yard line.
